Bargaining season begins: How we win great UPTE contracts in 2017!

Dear UPTE Local 1 Members,

As you know, our Clerical unit colleagues have been bargaining with UC for months and have already chosen to strike in response to UC’s insulting wage offers and attempts to undermine our shared pension.
How are we going to win a contract that protects our pension, guarantees fair raises, and creates a better working environment at UC?

Only through your participation in the bargaining process. Your co-workers who will sit at the bargaining table with UC have very little power – they will rely on all of us to build pressure on UC to do the right thing by organizing with our co-workers, signing petitions, attending rallies, and deciding whether we need to strike.

The first step is for everyone to fill out a bargaining survey. The bargaining survey is the primary way that we will know what issues are most important to you and what you’re willing to do to address them. We need to have all of our surveys collected by the end of the day on Wednesday, February 22nd.

The Systemwide Bargaining Conference is set for Saturday, February 25th in Sacramento. We will set our priorities and choose our bargainers. Each campus gets one bargainer per contract, which means that Berkeley will have 3.

In the meantime we will continue to have bargaining meetings around campus. If you would like to set one up near your work site or have any questions please contact us!
